Halifax Urban Ministries works to prevent Homelessness in low-income families by providing emergency assistance for basic security needs. Assistance is given in the form of food and financial assistance. Financial aid is given in the form of rent assistance, utility assistance and emergency shelter. In the area we serve – Volusia and Flagler counties – over 10,000 families exist below the federally established poverty threshold. Through emergency assistance, Halifax Urban Ministries helps low-income families who are otherwise forced to choose between food, rent and utilities.
 
Halifax Urban Ministries provides assistance to the homeless through hot meals, breakfast bags, hygiene products, showers and laundry. During cold weather Halifax Urban Ministries coordinates with area churches to provide overnight shelter. The homeless have been a concern of this ministry throughout its twenty-five years of service. As such, beyond the services offered, Halifax Urban Ministries is an active advocate for the homeless in all the facets that impact their lives.
